It's not just any weekend...

It's officially the weekend.
And in my book—it's officially my birthday weekend!

This weekend feels like the joy you had as a kid (and hopefully still now) when you got to eat both peanut butter cup ears off the Friendly's monster sundae before dad swiped one.
It feels like the 19 candles glowing on top of a vanilla birthday cake while your nearest and dearest sing to you in five different keys.
It feel like the busy streets of New York City with a warm cup of Starbucks in one hand and a side of LadurĂ©e macaroons in the other.
It's most definitely the perfect celebration after a week chock full of mid-terms and essays.

It's all my past birthday celebrations I am recalling as I think in retrospect of my *almost* 19 years and realize—I'm growing up.

The birthday party themes have certainly changed—the seafood feast for dinner has certainly not.
These changes may seem so sad but they are in fact full of joy.
To look at myself grow from birthday to birthday is quite the powerful, intriguing and during those middle school years quite embarrassing...journey so far.
But frankly, I am altogether enjoying watching myself grow as an individual.

Embrace the cape

All I can say is TGIW!
This was one bustling/inundated with school work/on the brink of insanity kind of week.
As insane as I may sound saying this—I almost enjoy the hectic schedule.
The busyness often times makes me realize how happy and thankful I am to be needed, creative and well just plain productive.

Between the hours in the classroom to the hours in the library I'm of course looking for a great outfit, but also one that is comfortable—not too hot not too cold, not too much but still functional.

This cape from Zara is absolutely perfect—it's like I get to wear a fashionable snuggie for the day. I can wrap it, tuck it and even snuggle in it (despite the odd *or envious* stares from the chilled folks in the library).

So my advice is to embrace the busy weeks that come your way. Make a to do list and slap on a killer outfit—I believe when put an outfit together that you love it helps you feel confident.
And with that dose of optimism you can accomplish all your tasks.

Blue bliss

You might have taken the hint already but I'll make it clear anyway—my favorite hues are navy and neutral.
I don't find it a coincidence either that both of my favorite colors are the colors of the beach—natural color of the sand, stones and dunes and the deep blue of the NE water against the clear baby blue sky—ugh I am just in love with the combination.
I guess this is why for as long as I can remember I have been collecting "beach treasures"—the beauty enthralls my mind and could leave me pleased for hours—probably even days.

The silver platter of shells, sea glass, seaweed, crab claws and other miscellaneous beach finds are all my proud tokens of being such a devoted beach goer—It's impossible for me to leave my beach with empty pockets.

What do you find yourself always collecting to put on display around your house?

Warming up to spring

Highs in the 50's today? I'll take it!
The sun has been thawing me out lately from the winter blues and into warmer hues and patterns.
Whenever spring rolls around I feel it's the perfect time for polka dots and pops of color.
My shirt in the picture above is a few years old from the J.Crew factory store—they do however have this one that is quite similar.
These snapshots are from around my house and the beautiful book art was done my mother :)

Be mine?

Happy Valentine's Day!

I actually love Valentine's Day.  Yes, the conversation hearts, glittered valentines, red frosted lips, chocolate O.D. and those sugar dusted cookies all make it sweet—but it is also a day that's more than that.
It's a day we can use to show friends, family, roommates, (and our beaus) that we truly enjoy spending our time with them and that we really love them.
One of my favorite Bible verses—1 Corinthians 13:13—shows this power of love:

"Three things will last forever—faith, hope and love—and the greatest of these is love"

Just a little sweet tidbit of wisdom for you on this lovely day—so go out there and tell someone you just simply love 'em!

-Love, Alex

Eye candy

If Heaven has paper covered books, handmade candy boxes, mini clover plants, an abundance of spring-time bunnies and robin eggs (oh and cups of Starbucks on the side), then I must have died and gone to Heaven this weekend.

I was in my hometown on Friday for only a few hours but evidently that did not deter my mom and I from stopping at our favorite local shops.
With Valentine's Day this week and Easter just around the corner, we swooned over the spring-time displays and had our arms full of "necessities" and some new dorm decor :)

We refueled at Starbuck before hitting the road and I managed to capture a snap of one of our many twinning moments.

What are local shops that you can't keep yourself out of?

Long time, no talk

Hey guys! I am so, so, SO (x100) sorry for my lack of posting. With the craziness of spring semester starting up I have been dedicating 99% of my time to my studies.
HOWEVER, I hope to change that this semester and take some of that percentage and dedicate it to Must be a Lady—just please bear with me :)

In the mean time, I would just hate to leave you empty handed and uninspired.
So here are a few of my "lovely" OOTD, mirror smudged, between class, snapshots that I usually send to my mom everyday.

Stayed tuned though, because I have an actual lovely post coming your way of one of the most adorable, little, quaint shop in Connecticut!
